Long term food storage works best if the stored food items are included on a regular basis in family meals (weekly, monthly, etc.). As such food rotation becomes critical to maintain the quality of food storage items by using the first in, first out (FIFO) method. Date your food storage boxes and can goods. When possible build or purchase shelving systems that provide easier food rotation.
The Food Storage Shelving System shown on the left can be built using a 7/16" 4' x 8' OSB sheet, 1" x 4" x 8' pine lumber, 1" x 2" x 8' pine lumber, 2" x 4" scrap lumber, and screws.
